WHAT IS A ROOT CANAL?
Root canals restore damaged teeth without having to extract them. Teeth are naturally covered by enamel that protects them, but inside the tooth, there is a soft pulp tissue containing nerves and blood vessels. These nerves and blood vessels keep the tooth healthy. If the interior of a tooth is damaged by decay, cracked, or chipped, the pulp can become inflamed or infected, which can cause swelling and pain.
